kendall

Where do I begin? Stephanie called me Saturday morning, and asked if I'd be available later in the day to photograph her 11 week old. After hearing her story I told her I'd be there just hours later without hesitation. You see, Stephanie and her husband just found out last week that Kendall has cancer. She has a mass the size of a tennis ball in her abdomen. Not really knowing what to expect when I arrived at their house, I was immediately in awe of their strength and calmness. Yes, life was completely turned upside down for this family in an instant, but they are being so strong and trying to keep life as normal as possible for Braden, their 4 year-old. They are still very uncertain what the future holds and what kind of treatments they will be going through since tests are still being run on Kendall. But, please keep them in your prayers.

Sweet, sweet Kendall. I got to hold her, and she looked me straight in the eye and stared at me. Probably wondering who in the heck I was! But isn't she a doll??!! Love those big eyes.

I love this photo. She just looks so safe and cozy here.

Then she turned on the charm and posed for us!

Stephanie is an amazing mom. I've known her all of about 60 minutes, and she is being so strong. She knows how to ease Kendall's pain.

There is a great story behind this painting. Rather than try to re-tell the story, I've pasted Stephanie's version of the story below. This is amazing. Gary Brackett, your foundation is connecting people in more ways that you can probably imagine.

"Matt and I were invited to Gary Brackett's Fundraiser for his foundation. While I was there I was drawn to a painting made by a little girl named Maeci who is fighting her own battle with cancer. I placed a bid on this painting because I thought it would look so great in Kendall's room. We ended up getting a call later that night saying that I won the painting. The next day Matt hung it in Kendall's room. Fast forward to this week and our new journey we are on. My step-sister posted a prayer request on her facebook page. Someone responded immediately to it. On her profile picture was a picture of Maeci. I knew this because the painting came with a picture of her. I immediately emailed her the following:

I am in complete shock right now. Andrea posted a message about my baby girl on her page and you responded right away. I just went to your page and you have something about a little girl named Maeci who has cancer. I just went to a fundraiser for Gary Brackett last week and bought a painted of a horse in an auction. It was done by Maeci and had her picture with it. Is Maeci yours or are you friends with her? This is so crazy . I have the picture hanging in Kendall's room right now.

It ended up being Maeci's aunt. I am now in constant contact with Maeci's mother and another mom who also has a little girl with cancer. I am amazed how God started preparing Matt and I before we even found out this news. I know have a support group of two women in my life who understand."

I told Stephanie I'd take some photos of Braden. At first he didn't want any taken because that would mean he'd have to change out of his Batman costume. When he knew I'd photograph him in his costume, he happily stepped into my shot!

Matt & Stephanie, stay strong. I haven't been able to get Kendall off of my mind. I hope her pain continues to be manageable and you receive some good news soon. It was a pleasure working with you and your adorable children. For those that want to follow Kendall's story, visit www.caringbridge.org/visit/kendallreeve

Never a dull moment with my nieces! Jude LOVES LOVES LOVES his cousins. We all planned a trip to the pumpkin patch a couple of weeks ago, and while we were there my sister, Jess, had me photograph the girls. We all had a great time and the weather was just perfect.

charleston, sc | sept 2010 family vacation

I'm almost 2 months late posting these, but if you can't tell, I've been just a WEE bit busy lately. In September, we took a vacation to Charleston, SC with my family. We rented a big house in Isle of Palms, it sat on the 5th green of the golf course, we had a golf cart to take to and from the pool and beach each day, and pretty much just vegged out the entire week. It was awesome. The kids had a great time playing with each other--it was like on big week long slumber party. I did a shoot with the DeShong clan one evening before dinner, so I've posted some of those shots below. At the very bottom of the post are a bunch of random vacation photos that were taken throughout the week!
